BuddyPress Integration

WP Stories integrates with BuddyPress to bring stories into your community’s activity feeds and member profiles.

  • BuddyPress 5.0 or higher
  • BuddyPress Activity component must be enabled
  1. Go to WP Stories > Settings > Integrations.
  2. Under the BuddyPress section, toggle BuddyPress Integration on.
  3. Click Save Changes.

The BuddyPress section only appears on the Integrations tab when BuddyPress is active on your site.

When enabled, users can create stories directly from the BuddyPress activity feed page. The story submission form appears above the activity stream, making it easy for members to share stories without navigating away.

Allows users to create story collections with custom cover images and titles, similar to Instagram Highlights. When this is enabled, the story submission form shows optional fields for a cover image (recommended 180x180 px) and a collection title. Stories without a cover image remain as individual story items.

Displays a list of who viewed each story. This information is only visible to the story owner.

Once enabled, stories appear at the top of the BuddyPress activity directory page. Members see story circles they can click to view, and the story feed respects the display style you configured in WP Stories > Settings > General (Square, List, or Instagram).

Members also get a Stories tab on their BuddyPress profile where they can view and manage their own stories.

WP Stories supports friends-only visibility when BuddyPress Friends component is active. Users can set individual story items to be visible to:

  • Everyone – public to all visitors
  • All Members – only logged-in users
  • My Friends – only the author’s BuddyPress friends
  • Only Me – private, visible only to the author

These visibility options are configurable under WP Stories > Settings > User Publishing Options > Available Visibility Options.
