Before you install

BuddyPress must already be installed and active on your site. The plugin checks for BuddyPress on activation and deactivates itself with an admin notice if BuddyPress is missing.

On WordPress multisite, both BuddyPress and BuddyPress Profanity must share the same activation scope. Either both are network-activated, or both are activated on the same individual site. Mixing (one network-wide, one on a single site) will trigger a configuration warning and the plugin will not run.

Installing from the WordPress admin

  1. Go to Plugins > Add New in your WordPress admin.
  2. Search for BuddyPress Profanity.
  3. Click Install Now, then Activate.
  4. You will be redirected to the BuddyPress Profanity settings page automatically.

Installing by upload

  1. Download the plugin zip file from wbcomdesigns.com.
  2. Go to Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin.
  3. Choose the zip file and click Install Now.
  4. Click Activate Plugin.

Manual FTP installation

  1. Extract the zip file to get the buddypress-profanity folder.
  2. Upload that folder to /wp-content/plugins/ on your server.
  3. Go to Plugins in your WordPress admin and activate Wbcom Designs - BuddyPress Profanity.

Where to find the settings

After activation, the settings page is at WB Plugins > BuddyPress Profanity in the WordPress admin menu.

You can also reach it from the plugin row on the Plugins screen — click the Settings link.

Confirming the plugin is running

On the Overview tab of the settings page you will see:

  • A count of blocked keywords currently active
  • How many content types are being filtered
  • Whether privacy masking is on
  • A warning if BuddyPress is not active

If you see a warning that no content types are selected, go to General Settings and enable the content types you want filtered. See Quick Setup.

Uninstalling

Deactivating the plugin stops all filtering immediately — content displays as written in the database again.

Deleting the plugin removes the plugin files. Note that in the current version, the stored settings and license data are not removed from the database on uninstall. If you want a clean removal, delete the wbbprof_settings option manually via a database tool after uninstalling.
