Installation & Activation
Section titled “Installation & Activation”Before you install
Section titled “Before you install”Make sure BuddyPress or BuddyBoss Platform is already active on your site. The plugin will deactivate itself and show an error if neither is present.
Install via WordPress admin
Section titled “Install via WordPress admin”- Go to Plugins > Add New in your WordPress admin.
- Search for “BuddyPress Anonymous Activity” or upload the ZIP file you downloaded from wbcomdesigns.com.
- Click Install Now, then Activate.
- After activation, the browser redirects you to WB Plugins > Anonymous Activity where you can configure settings.
Install via FTP
Section titled “Install via FTP”- Unzip the plugin archive on your computer.
- Upload the
bp-anonymous-activitiesfolder to/wp-content/plugins/. - Go to Plugins in your WordPress admin and activate “Wbcom Designs - BuddyPress Anonymous Activity”.
What happens at activation
Section titled “What happens at activation”The plugin checks that either BuddyPress or BuddyBoss Platform is active. If neither is found, it deactivates itself immediately and shows a notice asking you to install one of them first.
On a successful activation, you are redirected to the plugin’s settings page automatically.
Finding the settings page
Section titled “Finding the settings page”After activation, go to WB Plugins > Anonymous Activity in the WordPress admin sidebar.
The page has three tabs:

Activate your license key
Section titled “Activate your license key”If you purchased the plugin from wbcomdesigns.com, activate your license to receive automatic updates.
- Go to WB Plugins > Anonymous Activity.
- Look for the license field in the plugin header area.
- Enter your license key and click Activate License.
- The status should change to “active”. If it does not, check that your key was copied without extra spaces.
Without an active license, the plugin continues to work but will not receive automatic update notifications.
Verify the plugin is working
Section titled “Verify the plugin is working”After activating:
- Navigate to the activity stream on your site (usually
/activity/or/members/). - Log in as a non-admin member.
- Open the activity post form. You should see a “Post as Anonymous User” checkbox below the text area.
If the checkbox does not appear, check Quick Setup to confirm the settings are configured correctly.
Troubleshooting activation
Section titled “Troubleshooting activation”“This plugin requires BuddyPress or BuddyBoss” notice
BuddyPress or BuddyBoss Platform must be installed and activated before this plugin can run. Install one, then activate this plugin again.
Redirected to the wrong page after activation
This happens if WordPress’s admin_init hook runs before the redirect fires (common in some hosting environments). Go to WB Plugins > Anonymous Activity directly from the admin sidebar.
Plugin not visible in WB Plugins menu
Check that the plugin is activated under Plugins > Installed Plugins. If it shows as active but the menu is missing, a PHP error may have prevented the menu from registering — check wp-content/debug.log or enable WP_DEBUG temporarily.
