Invite People With a Link

Every space can have one shareable invite link. Anyone who opens it can join the space directly, so you can hand out access in a newsletter, a welcome email, or a private message instead of inviting people one at a time.

Why use it

Per-person invites are perfect for adding a known member or two. They do not scale. If you sold two hundred seats, welcome a new cohort each month, or want to drop a “join us” link into a post, inviting people individually is slow and easy to forget.

An invite link solves that:

• One link, many people. Share it once; everyone who opens it can join.
• You stay in control. Set how long the link works and how many people it lets in, and reset it the moment you want the old link to stop working.
• No approval queue. People who use the link join straight away, so you are not left approving a backlog, even on a private space.

For the people you invite, a link is the shortest path in: open it, sign in or sign up, and they land on the space ready to join.

How it works (for owners and moderators)

The invite link lives in Space settings, on the Invite link tab. You see it if you are the space owner, a moderator, or a site admin (whoever the space’s “who can invite” setting allows).

Creating the link

With no link yet, you pick two things and create it:

• Expires - 1 day, 7 days (the default), 30 days, or never.
• Max uses - 1, 10, 100, or unlimited (the default).

Click Create invite link and the link appears with a Copy button. Paste it anywhere you want to invite people.

While the link is active

The tab shows the link, when it expires, and how many times it has been used (“Expires 1 October, 2026 · Used 3 of 100”). A link with no expiry or no limit says so plainly. Once a link has expired or hit its limit it is marked “Expired” or “Limit reached” and stops letting anyone in.

Resetting the link

Reset link turns the current link off immediately and issues a new one with the same settings. Use it if a link was shared too widely or you simply want a fresh one. There is only ever one active link per space, and resetting is the only way to revoke it.

How it works (for the people you invite)

When someone opens your link:

• Already signed in - they see the space (its name, description, and rules) with a Join space button, even if the space is private or secret. Joining is immediate, with no approval step.
• Signed out - they see the same page with “Log in to join” or “Sign up to join”. After they sign in or create an account they come right back to the space and join.
• Already a member - the link just opens the space as normal.
• Banned from the space - the link never lets a banned person back in.
• Link no longer valid - if the link has expired, been reset, or hit its limit, they are told it is no longer valid and to ask you for a new one. They never see the space’s private contents through a dead link.

What a link does not skip

A link is a shortcut into a space, not a way around your site’s rules:

• New accounts still complete sign-up. If your community is invite-only at the site level, or asks new members to verify their email or finish a welcome setup, a space link does not skip any of that. The person completes those steps first, then lands on the space.
• Paid spaces still charge. If a space requires a membership plan, the link does not waive it. The person still needs the plan to join.

After someone joins

Members who came in through the link are flagged “Joined via invite link” on the space’s Members tab, visible to you and your moderators. It is a quiet note for your own reference; the member does not see it, and it disappears if they leave.
