Group Settings
Group Settings
Section titled “Group Settings”Go to WB Plugins > Profile Pro > Group Settings to access these settings.
Field groups are the containers that organize your extended profile fields into sections. Each group appears as a collapsible section in the extended-fields form. You can create as many groups as you need.
Viewing and editing existing groups
Section titled “Viewing and editing existing groups”The left column shows all your current groups as expandable rows. Click the gear icon on a group row to reveal its settings. Click the trash icon to delete it (this also deletes all fields inside that group).
Group Title
Section titled “Group Title”The display name shown to members on their profile form. Keep it short and descriptive (for example, “Education”, “Work Experience”, “Social Links”).
Group Description
Section titled “Group Description”Internal description visible only in the admin settings next to the group name (shown as a tooltip). Use this to note what the group is for or which content belongs in it.
Group Display Area
Section titled “Group Display Area”Controls where in the extended-fields view this group appears.
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Content Area | Group shows in the main content column of the profile. |
| Sidebar | Group shows in the sidebar column. |
Not all BuddyPress themes implement a sidebar on the profile page. If your theme does not have a profile sidebar, sidebar groups may not display at all. Test with your active theme.
Display Group at BuddyPress Profile
Section titled “Display Group at BuddyPress Profile”When checked, this group and its fields appear in the member’s extended-fields profile tab. Uncheck this to hide the group from the profile view without deleting it.
Display Group at Resume
Section titled “Display Group at Resume”Retained for compatibility with sites that previously used the BP Resume Manager plugin. In most setups this has no visible effect — leave it unchecked unless you have a custom template or integration that reads this flag.
Repeater
Section titled “Repeater”When checked, this group works as a repeater: members can add multiple entries for the same set of fields. For example, a “Work Experience” repeater group lets a member enter a separate employer, job title, and dates for each position they have held.
Fields inside a repeater group should themselves be marked as repeater fields. Non-repeater fields inside a repeater group will still be stored once per entry.
Note: The “Show on register page” option for individual fields is hidden for fields inside repeater groups, because repeater data cannot be collected on the BuddyPress registration form.
Group Availability
Section titled “Group Availability”Restrict this group so only specific users see it. Choose one method:
User roles — the group is shown only to members who have one of the selected WordPress user roles. Select “All” to show it to everyone.
Member type — the group is shown only to members assigned one of the selected BuddyPress member types. Select “All” to show it to everyone. This option only appears if you have defined BuddyPress member types.
Leave the availability controls empty (no radio selected) to show the group to all members.
Adding a new group
Section titled “Adding a new group”The right column contains the Add New Group form.
- Enter a Group Title (required).
- Enter a Group Description.
- Choose a Group Display Area (Content Area or Sidebar).
- Check Display Group at BuddyPress Profile if you want the group visible on profiles (recommended for most groups).
- Check Repeater if members should be able to add multiple entries.
- Set Group Availability if this group should be restricted to certain roles or member types.
- Click Add.
The group is created via an AJAX request. The page updates without a full reload. After it appears in the left column, click Save Settings to persist the order.
Deleting a group
Section titled “Deleting a group”Click the trash icon on any group row. A confirmation dialog appears before deletion. Deleting a group removes all fields inside it and all saved member data for those fields from the wbbpp_<group_key>_<field_key> user meta entries. This action cannot be undone.
After saving
Section titled “After saving”Click Save Settings at the bottom of the left column form. Changes to group title, description, display area, repeater flag, and availability settings are saved to the wbbpp_profile_groups_settings option.
New groups created via the Add New Group form are saved immediately on submission and are also included when you click Save Settings.
