Recipe: Moderate at Scale

Goal: keep a large or fast-growing community healthy without living in the review queue. You’ll need: BuddyNext Free for the core queue; BuddyNext Pro for automation and bulk tools. Time: about 30 minutes to set up; ongoing thereafter.

Moderation on BuddyNext is reactive by design - members post freely, and problems are reported, reviewed, and removed. This recipe layers the free queue with Pro automation so the volume stays manageable as you grow.

Before you start

  • Confirm the report button appears on posts, comments, profiles, and spaces.
  • Decide who moderates - you alone does not scale past a few hundred active members.

Steps

  1. Learn the queue. Every report lands in one review queue with the context a moderator needs to decide. Know how to action, dismiss, and escalate before volume arrives. Full guide: Moderation Queue and Reporting Content.

  2. Recruit moderators. Give trusted members moderator capability so reviews are shared. Set expectations for what gets removed versus warned. Full guide: Community Roles and Moderators. For per-member actions - suspend, warn, restrict - see User Moderation.

  3. Set safeguards. Turn on the content safeguards that catch the obvious cases automatically, so the queue only holds the judgement calls. Full guide: Content Safeguards. Members you action can contest a decision - see Appeals.

  4. Add auto-moderation rules (Pro). Write rules that flag or hold content matching patterns you choose, before a human ever sees it. Full guide: Auto-Moderation.

What your members see

Moderation is quiet by design: members post normally, and only content that breaks the rules is removed or held. Someone who is actioned is told, and can appeal.
