Quick Setup
Quick Setup
Section titled “Quick Setup”After installing and activating the plugin, follow these steps to get anonymous posting working in about two minutes.
Step 1: Open the settings page
Section titled “Step 1: Open the settings page”Go to WB Plugins > Anonymous Activity in your WordPress admin menu. Click the General tab.
Step 2: Choose where anonymous posting is allowed
Section titled “Step 2: Choose where anonymous posting is allowed”The plugin ships with all locations enabled by default. Turn off any context where you do not want anonymous posting:
| Toggle | What it controls |
|---|---|
| Allow Anonymous Posts in Groups | The anonymous checkbox appears inside BuddyPress/BuddyBoss groups |
| Allow Anonymous Posts in Sitewide Activity | The checkbox appears on the main /activity/ directory |
| Allow Anonymous Posts in User Profiles | The checkbox appears on a member’s own profile activity tab |
| Allow Anonymous Comments | The checkbox appears when a member clicks Reply on any activity |
| Allow Anonymous Posts in Forums | The checkbox appears in bbPress or BuddyBoss forum topics and replies |
Step 3: Decide who can post anonymously
Section titled “Step 3: Decide who can post anonymously”By default, all logged-in users (except administrators) can use the anonymous checkbox. To restrict it:
- By role — Select one or more roles in “Role Based Anonymous Posting”. Only members with those roles will see the checkbox. Leave the list empty to allow all roles.
- By member type — Select member types in “Exclude Member Types from Anonymous Posting”. Members of those types will not see the checkbox.
- Verified members only — If the BP Verified Member plugin is active, you can enable “Allow Anonymous Activity for Verified Members”. Only verified members will see the checkbox.
Step 4: Save
Section titled “Step 4: Save”Click Save Changes at the bottom of the General tab.
Step 5: Test as a member
Section titled “Step 5: Test as a member”Log in as a regular member (not admin) and go to the activity stream. You should see the “Post as Anonymous User” checkbox. Check it, write something, and post. The activity should appear with “Anonymous User” as the author name, no clickable profile link, and the default avatar.
Troubleshooting: checkbox does not appear
Section titled “Troubleshooting: checkbox does not appear”- Confirm the correct location toggle is enabled (groups, sitewide, or profile).
- Confirm the current user’s role is either in the allowed roles list or the list is empty.
- If using BP Verified Member, confirm the “Allow for Verified Members” toggle is on and the test user is verified.
- Administrators never see the checkbox — always test with a subscriber, editor, or custom member role.
