Your First Scheduled Post
This guide walks you through scheduling a personal activity post step by step.
Step 1: Open the activity posting area
Section titled “Step 1: Open the activity posting area”Go to any page where you can post a BuddyPress activity. Common locations:
- Your profile page
- The main Activity page
- A group’s Activity tab
You will see the standard “What’s new?” activity box.
Step 2: Write your post
Section titled “Step 2: Write your post”Click inside the activity box and type your content. You can include text, links, mentions (@username), and hashtags. If your site supports media attachments, you can add images the usual way before scheduling.
Step 3: Open the scheduler
Section titled “Step 3: Open the scheduler”Look for the clock icon in the row of options below or beside the text area. The label reads “Add a scheduled activity” when you hover over it.
Click the clock icon. A small dropdown appears with two options:
- Schedule Activity - opens the scheduling form
- View Scheduled Activities - takes you to your Scheduled Posts tab
Click Schedule Activity.
Step 4: Fill in the date and time
Section titled “Step 4: Fill in the date and time”A modal dialog opens. It shows the site’s current date and time at the top for reference.
Date field - type or pick a date in yyyy-mm-dd format. You can schedule up to 90 days from today. Past dates cannot be used.
Time field - type the hour and minutes in hh:mm format. The picker uses 5-minute increments.
AM / PM - select the radio button for morning or afternoon. PM is selected by default.
Step 5: Confirm
Section titled “Step 5: Confirm”Click the Next button. The modal confirms your selection and submits the post.
When the post is saved you will see a success message: “Activity scheduled successfully. Your activity has been scheduled successfully.” with a link to view all your scheduled activities.
The activity posting box resets, ready for a new post.
What happens after you schedule
Section titled “What happens after you schedule”- The post is stored with a
scheduledstatus and does not appear in any public activity feed - The site’s cron runs every minute and publishes any posts whose scheduled time has passed
- When it publishes, the post appears in the feed as a normal activity entry
- The post is removed from your Scheduled Posts list
Scheduling a group post
Section titled “Scheduling a group post”The process is the same for group posts. Navigate to the group, go to its Activity tab, write your content, click the clock icon, and set a date and time. You must be a member of the group with posting permission for the schedule option to work.
Time zone note
Section titled “Time zone note”Dates and times are interpreted in the site’s time zone, not your browser’s local time. Check with your site admin if you are unsure which time zone the site uses.
