Quick Setup Guide

This guide walks you from a fresh activation to a working extended profile in about ten minutes.

Go to WB Plugins > Profile Pro > License and enter your license key. This enables automatic updates.

Go to WB Plugins > Profile Pro > Overview. You will see a summary of how many groups and fields exist. On a fresh install you have three default groups (Education, Professional Experience, Contact Details) and their pre-built fields.

If the overview shows “No extended fields yet,” it means the default data was not created during activation. Deactivate and reactivate the plugin to re-trigger the setup.

Go to Group Settings. Review the three default groups:

  • Education and Professional Experience are repeater groups — members can add multiple entries.
  • Contact Details is a standard group displayed in the sidebar area.

If these groups fit your community, leave them as-is and move to the next step. If not, rename them or add new ones. See Group Settings for full details.

Go to Field Settings. Each group has its own tab. Expand any field row by clicking the gear icon to see its type, description, and other options.

You can drag fields up and down to reorder them within a group. Click Save Settings after reordering.

Go to General Settings. The default label for the extended-fields tab is Extended Fields. Change Profile tab name to whatever makes sense for your community (for example, “My Profile”, “Professional Profile”, “Resume”).

Click Save Settings.

Step 6 — (Optional) Enable field visibility controls

Section titled “Step 6 — (Optional) Enable field visibility controls”

Still on General Settings, turn on Field visibility controls if you want members to choose who can see each of their fields. When this is on, members see a visibility selector in their BuddyPress profile settings for each extended field.

Section titled “Step 7 — (Optional) Configure profile search”

Go to Profile Search. Check Enable profile search, then click Add Field to choose which fields appear in the members-directory search form.

See Profile Search Settings for details on search modes.

Log in as a regular member (not admin) and visit your profile. You should see the new tab (for example, “Extended Fields”) under the profile navigation. Click it to open the form and fill in some data to confirm everything saves correctly.

  • The extended-fields tab appears on a member’s own profile. Other members cannot see the tab unless they visit that profile’s extended-fields URL directly.
  • When a member views another member’s profile, the extended fields display in a read-only view (based on visibility settings).
  • If profile search is enabled, the search form appears on the BuddyPress members directory page.
