Step-by-Step: Set Word Count Limits

Step 1: Access Restrictions Settings

Go to Member Blog → Restrictions in your WordPress admin.

Step 2: Find Word Count Section

Scroll to the Word Count Limits section. You’ll see options for each user role.

Step 3: Set Minimum Words

Enter the minimum number of words required for a post to be submitted. Common values:

100 words: Light requirement, allows short updates 200 words: Moderate requirement for basic articles 500 words: Substantial content for SEO-focused sites 1000+ words: Long-form content requirement

Step 4: Set Maximum Words (Optional)

Enter the maximum word limit, or leave at 0 for no maximum. Consider:

2000 words: Standard blog post length 5000 words: Allows detailed guides and tutorials 10000 words: For comprehensive long-form content 0 (no limit): No restriction on post length

Step 5: Save Changes

Click Save Changes. Word count validation starts immediately for new posts.

What Members See

Below Minimum

If a member’s post doesn’t meet the minimum requirement:

“Your post has 150 words. Please add at least 50 more words to meet the 200 word minimum.”

Above Maximum

If a member exceeds the maximum:

“Your post has 5,500 words. Please reduce it to 5,000 words or less.”

Live Word Counter

Members see a real-time word counter while writing that shows:
