Docs audit — BuddyNext refocus
Date: 25 Aug 2026 · Scope: all 56 pages under docs/website/ (58 before the demo removal below)
Audit only. No page has been rewritten. This exists so the refocus decision is made against real numbers rather than an impression.
Method
Section titled “Method”Every .md counted for case-insensitive mentions of buddypress and buddynext.
Mention count is a proxy for coupling, not a quality judgement — a page with 12
mentions may still be entirely correct for BuddyNext. The classification below is
what matters; the counts are the evidence for it.
Headline
Section titled “Headline”| Class | Files | What it means |

39 of 56 pages need no content change at all (22 neutral + 17 BP-light where the mention is incidental). The refocus is not a 58-file rewrite.
The split that decides the work
Section titled “The split that decides the work”The 12 BP-HEAVY pages are not one group. They divide cleanly, and the two halves need opposite treatment.
Group A — community-platform pages (5 files, ~400 lines)
Section titled “Group A — community-platform pages (5 files, ~400 lines)”These are about the community platform. BuddyNext needs a real presence here, and this is where nearly all the genuine writing sits.

Group B — BP is incidental (7 files, ~600 lines)
Section titled “Group B — BP is incidental (7 files, ~600 lines)”Here BuddyPress is mentioned because the add-on or API integrates with it. Since third-party integrations are staying, these pages stay. At most they need “or BuddyNext” where a statement is genuinely platform-agnostic.

Do not bulk find-and-replace this group. Swapping “BuddyPress” for “BuddyNext” in
template-overrides.md would produce factually wrong file paths — bp-nouveau/ is a
real directory name, not a brand reference.
Already dual-aware — copy this pattern
Section titled “Already dual-aware — copy this pattern”Four pages already mention both and read correctly. Whoever does the refocus should open these first and match their tone rather than inventing a new one:

Recommendation
Section titled “Recommendation”Additive, not a rewrite. Concretely:
- Write one new page —
community/buddynext-setup.md, mirroringbuddypress-setup.md. This is the single highest-value item and probably the only genuinely new writing required. - Generalise wording in 3 pages (
signin-popup,member-and-group-directories, and thecommunity/section blurb indocs_config.json, which currently reads “Wire Reign to BuddyPress, BuddyBoss or PeepSo” — BuddyNext is missing from it). - Leave Group B alone beyond an “or BuddyNext” where a claim is platform-agnostic.
- Leave the 22 neutral pages untouched.
Estimated real work: 1 new page + edits to ~4 files, against an initial impression of “33 files mention BuddyPress so 33 files need rewriting”.
Risk of the alternative. Reframing BuddyNext as primary across the whole tree would touch ~33 pages, and every BP-specific instruction that got generalised without being re-verified against BuddyNext becomes a wrong instruction for existing BP customers — who are the current install base.

Verified: no residual wbcom-demo / import-a-demo / demo-import-failed references
anywhere in docs, and no broken internal /docs/ links after the deletions (the
only inbound link to either page was between the two deleted pages themselves).
Kept — decision confirmed 25 Aug 2026. getting-started/installation.md §“Install the
free plugins” stays. It documents the one-click installer, a live feature in
inc/required-plugins/class-reign-plugin-installer.php — not a bundled plugin — and it
promotes BuddyNext, Jetonomy, Learnomy, Eventonomy, MediaVerse and the rest of the
series, so it serves the BN-focus goal rather than working against it.
Verified accurate at the same time, so nobody needs to re-check it:
- The ten products listed in the doc are exactly the ten in the installer catalog, with matching display names (order differs; content does not).
- All ten are genuinely one-click installable — every catalog entry carries a
key, so the doc’s “Each is a free plugin” claim holds. None are store-link-only.
If a product is ever added to or removed from the catalog, this doc list must move with it — it is the only place the catalog is mirrored in prose.
