Posting a Status
This page walks through how a member posts a status update.
Where to find the status form
Section titled “Where to find the status form”The status form appears on your BuddyPress profile page. Navigate to your profile — the form is at the top of the status section, above any previously saved statuses.
Writing your status
Section titled “Writing your status”Click inside the text area labeled What’s your status? and type your message. The character counter below the text area shows how many characters remain out of the 140-character limit. The counter turns red if you exceed the limit.
Note: Some emojis count as 2 characters. This is standard Unicode behavior and not a bug.
Adding an emoji
Section titled “Adding an emoji”Click the smiley-face icon on the right side of the toolbar to open the emoji picker. Emojis are organized into categories — Smileys, People, Nature, Food, Travel, Objects, Symbols, and Flags. Scroll through or use the category tabs at the top of the picker to navigate. Click any emoji to insert it at the cursor position in your status text.
Using a quick suggestion
Section titled “Using a quick suggestion”If the admin has set up global status suggestions, you will see them as buttons below the text area under Suggested statuses. Click any suggestion to copy it into the text area. You can edit the suggestion before posting.
Adding a feeling or activity (optional)
Section titled “Adding a feeling or activity (optional)”If your admin has enabled feelings and activities, you will see an activity button in the status form toolbar. Clicking it opens a list of activity types:
- Celebrating
- Watching
- Eating
- Drinking
- Travelling
- Listening
- Looking for
- Thinking
- Reading
- Playing
- Supporting
Select an activity. A prompt appears asking for your specific answer — for example, selecting Eating shows “What are you eating?” Type your answer, and the activity tag will be included when you post.
Submitting the status
Section titled “Submitting the status”Two buttons appear at the bottom of the form:
- Add Status — saves the status to your list but does not change your current profile status.
- Add & Set as Current — saves the status and immediately sets it as your active profile status.
Click whichever option fits your intent.
Managing your saved statuses
Section titled “Managing your saved statuses”Below the form is a table listing all your saved statuses. Each row has three action links:
| Action | Icon | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Set as current | Checkmark | Makes this status your active profile status. The row highlights to show it is the current one. |
| Edit | Pencil | Loads the status text into the form so you can modify it. Use Update Status or Update & Set as Current to save the change. |
| Delete | Trash | Permanently removes that status from your list. |
What others see
Section titled “What others see”If the admin has enabled status display on user profiles, your current status appears on your profile. If status display in members directory is enabled, a short version (up to 30 characters) appears next to your name in the member listing.
