WP Stories > Discover

Lists the Wbcom plugin family and lets you install the free ones without leaving your dashboard. Added in 2.4.2.

Each product shows a logo, a one-line description, and a status:

Badge Meaning Button
Not installed Not present on this site Install free
Installed Present but not activated Activate
Active Installed and running none - the card turns green

Every product also has a Learn more link to its page on the Wbcom store.

Click Install free. The plugin is downloaded from the Wbcom store, its free licence is activated for your domain so it keeps receiving updates, and it is activated. The button reports progress and the card switches to Active when it finishes.

You need the install plugins capability - normally an administrator. Anyone without it sees the cards and the store links, but no install buttons.

The message tells you what the store said rather than a generic failure. The usual causes:

  • “WordPress needs filesystem access to install plugins.” Your host requires FTP credentials for plugin installs. Install from Plugins > Add New > Upload instead, or ask your host to enable direct file access.
  • A licence or entitlement message from the store. The store declined the free licence for your domain. Use the Learn more link and download it from your account.
  • The site cannot reach the store. Outbound HTTPS to wbcomdesigns.com is blocked. This is common on locked-down or intranet hosting.

Nothing is part-installed when a step fails - if the download or licence step fails, no plugin folder is left behind.

  • These are separate plugins. Installing one from here does not change WP Stories, and removing one later is a normal plugin deletion.
  • Products that are not one-click installable show only Learn more.
  • Only plugins on the built-in list can be installed from this screen. It is a fixed list inside WP Stories, not a search of the plugin directory.
